Lahore, April 2, 2026 — The faithful of the Archdiocese of Lahore gathered in large numbers on Holy Thursday morning for the solemn celebration of the Chrism Mass, a significant liturgy in the life of the Church during the Sacred Paschal Triduum.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Grace Khalid Rehmat OFM Cap, Metropolitan Archbishop of Lahore. He was joined by major superiors of religious congregations and the clergy of the Archdiocese, who concelebrated the Holy Mass together in a powerful sign of priestly unity and communion with their bishop.

In his homily, Archbishop Khalid Rehmat reflected on the deep meaning of the priesthood, reminding the clergy that Jesus Christ is the very centre of priestly life and ministry. He said that Christ is the source of every grace, blessing, and mercy that flows through the priestly ministry. The Archbishop emphasized that the purpose of the Church’s liturgy is the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful.
Reflecting on the mystery of Holy Thursday, the day on which the Church commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the ministerial priesthood, the Archbishop reminded the priests that sacrifice stands at the heart of their vocation. He noted that the priest is called to serve God and His people with generosity and selfless dedication.
He also highlighted the importance of unity among priests, stating that genuine communion within the presbyterate strengthens the Church and helps the faithful grow in faith. The Archbishop encouraged priests to remain faithful to a deep life of prayer, explaining that personal prayer renews their relationship with God and strengthens their pastoral service.
Addressing the faithful present in the cathedral, the Archbishop invited them to pray for their priests and to support them with love and encouragement. Such support, he said, strengthens priests in their vocation and enables them to serve as good shepherds of the flock entrusted to their care.

During the liturgy, the traditional blessing of the Holy Oils took place. The Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism were solemnly blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop. These oils will be used throughout the year in the celebration of the sacraments in parishes across the Archdiocese, particularly in Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and the Anointing of the Sick.

The Chrism Mass was attended by members of numerous religious congregations, seminarians, and a large number of faithful from different parts of the Archdiocese of Lahore. The solemn liturgy concluded with the renewal of priestly commitment by the clergy, a traditional moment in which priests reaffirm their dedication to the service of Christ and His Church.

The celebration marked a profound moment of ecclesial unity, gratitude for the gift of the priesthood, and preparation for the sacred liturgies of the Paschal Triduum.
