The Youhanabad community gathered in solemn prayer to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Servant of God Akash Bashir. Led by Rev. Fr. Akram Javed, the faithful honored the young martyr’s sacrifice with a Holy Mass and a moving candle-lighting ceremony at his home parish.
A Community United in Prayer
On the 11th anniversary of his martyrdom, the life and sacrifice of Akash Bashir were prayerfully commemorated at his home parish, St. John’s Catholic Church. The atmosphere was one of deep devotion as the local community gathered to honor the young man who gave his life to protect hundreds of worshipers during the tragic events of March 15, 2015.

The Holy Sacrifice of Mass
The commemorative Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Akram Javed, Parish Priest, with Fr. Amjad Yousaf concelebrating. Deacon Andrew assisted at the altar during the Holy Sacrifice, which focused on the strength of faith and the power of selfless service.

In attendance was the family of Akash Bashir, joined by a large number of the faithful. Their presence served as a living link to the courage displayed a decade ago, reminding all present of the human cost and the spiritual victory found in Akash’s witness.
Honoring a Courageous Witness
Following the Mass, a touching tribute took place as the faithful gathered to offer flowers and light candles in memory of the martyr. These simple acts of devotion symbolized the “Light of Christ” that Akash defended so bravely.

As the first Pakistani to be officially titled a “Servant of God” by the Vatican, Akash’s legacy has become a global symbol of courage. His final words—“I will die, but I will not let you go inside”—continue to resonate as a supreme example of “courageous witness.”
A Legacy for the Future
The ceremony concluded with a call for the testimony of Akash Bashir to continue inspiring the Church in Pakistan and beyond. By remembering his sacrifice, the community renews its commitment to peace, faith, and religious harmony.
“May his testimony of faith in Christ continue to inspire the Church.”
