On April 16, 2025, the Archdiocese of Lahore solemnly celebrated the Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by *His Grace Benny Mario Travas,* Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese, and concelebrated by *Rev. Fr. Pascal Paulus OP,* Vice Provincial of the Dominican Order in Pakistan, *Rev. Fr. Asif Sardar,* Vicar General, and the entire clergy of the Archdiocese. A large number of religious sisters, brothers, and lay faithful also participated in this sacred occasion.
In his homily, His Grace called the Chrism Mass a *“feast of priests,”* a moment where sacred oils are blessed for sacramental use throughout the year, and the bishop expresses gratitude to his clergy. Celebrating his first Chrism Mass in Lahore, he warmly thanked the priests for their collaboration and faithful service, recognizing their dedication amid the challenges of pastoral ministry.
Reflecting on the Gospel theme of anointing, His Grace emphasized three essential dimensions of priestly anointing:
*1. Anointed to Bless:* As priests, we are called to be sources of blessing, affirming the goodness of God’s creation.
*2. Anointed to Empower:* Priests are entrusted with leading and empowering the faithful to take active roles in parish life and Church mission.
*3. Anointed to Die:* True priesthood involves humility and self-giving, dying to self so that Christ may live more fully in us.
The Mass was a profound moment of unity and renewal for the Church in Lahore, reminding all of the sacred call and mission entrusted to the ordained ministers of Christ.
