Archdiocese of Lahore Opens Formation on Pope Leo XIV’s Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas Clergy and Religious Gather to Discern the Encyclical’s Call for Communion and the Civilization of Love

Lahore, June 20, 2026 — The Archdiocese of Lahore, under the guidance of His Grace Archbishop Khalid Rehmat OFM Cap, held an opening formation session dedicated to the encyclical Magnifica Humanitas of Pope Leo XIV, inviting clergy and religious to reflect on its message in the context of Pakistan today.

The initiative sought to encourage a shared ecclesial discernment of the encyclical and to explore how its teachings may be lived and proclaimed within local pastoral realities. The sessions were led by Fr. Amjad Yousaf, who presented a comprehensive overview of the document using a structured PowerPoint presentation.

Beginning with the powerful biblical and symbolic images proposed in the encyclical—the Tower of Babel and the rebuilding of Jerusalem—the presentation guided participants through the document’s central reflections on the challenges and hopes of the present age. Particular attention was given to themes of human dignity, fraternity, discernment amid contemporary cultural and technological changes, the renewal of communities, and the Church’s mission to foster authentic human development rooted in the Gospel.

The sessions emphasized the importance of receiving the encyclical not merely as a text for study but as a pastoral and missionary invitation for the Church in Pakistan. Participants reflected together on how the themes of Magnifica Humanitas may illuminate local realities and encourage new forms of evangelization, dialogue, social responsibility, and communion.

In his concluding remarks, Archbishop Khalid Rehmat encouraged priests and religious to receive the encyclical as a pastoral invitation and a call to active witness. He urged them to bring its message into their ministries and communities, becoming signs of unity and hope.

He invited all present to work together as builders of communion and to contribute to what the Holy Father calls the civilization of love, rooted in the Gospel and expressed through concrete service to humanity.

The Archdiocese announced that this opening session marks the beginning of a wider process of reflection on Magnifica Humanitas across the local Church.
